Though in western countries green tea became popular not so long ago, in China for example, it was known for thousands of years. Chinese have used green tea since ancient times to treat various diseases and even mental health problems. These reports claim that drinking green tea prevents from cancer, lowers cholesterol levels, lowers blood sugar, suppresses aging, fights viruses and also helps in weight loss battle. But why green tea? There are other types of tea, like black tea or oolong tea. Why green tea is said to have so many healthy benefits compared to other types of tea? All teas are made from the same Camellia sinensis plant. The difference is in the process of making the tea. Green tea leaves are steamed, which prevents the EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) compound from being oxidized. EGCG compound is very effective and helps fighting various diseases. Black and oolong tea leaves are processed from fermented leaves. This way, the EGCG compound is transformed into other elements, which are not very effective in preventing diseases. Green tea also contains high levels of antioxidants, some of which are called polyphenols, flavonoids, and catechins. All these antioxidants prevent your body from different diseases. Antioxidants can be found not only in teas, but also in various fruits and vegetables. How Many Cups of Tea should you drink? There are many opinions on how many cups of green tea you should drink in order to slim down your body fat to lose weight and feel other health benefits. However, majority agree that only drinking 5, 10 or more cups per day can make you see some results. While green tea can offer lots of healthy benefits, it shouldn’t be used as the only way to lose weight. Green tea weight loss can suppress your appetite, boost your metabolism, control high sugar levels, but it requires you to drink large quantities of green tea and not many people can drink 10 cups of tea everyday. |
